The NFL is selling it like this: STORYLINE: Eli goes to San Diego.
You might remember that Eli Manning was drafted No. 1 overall by the Chargers in 2004, then immediately traded to the Giants for Philip Rivers (Who?)
Well, the Giants didn't do shit last year, but the Chargers behind Drew Brees went on to a division title. Brees was voted NFL comback player of the year YEE HAW.
Manning, as the starter in New York’s final seven games in 2004 led the team to a 1-6 record. But began to improve at the end of the season. This year he's taken the Giants to their first 2-0 record since 2000. The Chargers, on the other hand, are going nowhere fast behind the brain-dead coaching of Marty Shitenheimer.
Sunday's game will also feature a matchup of two of the best backs in the NFL who both wear No. 21. The Giants’ Tiki Barber comes off an 83-yard, two-TD game Monday night, and the Chargers’ LD last Sunday established the
NFL record for most consecutive games with a rushing TD (14). [NFL]
Two stats put the teams’ seasons in perspective. The Giants have dominated their two games this year, scoring 69 total
points, the most in a season’s first two games in their 81-year history. The Chargers are indeed 0-2, but have lost those
games by a total of only seven points -- after blowing early leads. Thanks Marty.
Charger officials are warning San Diego fans to be on their best behavior Sunday -- "You stay classy San Diego." Don't know how laid back San Diegans can be anything else ...
So, that's my game of the week. But because I live within 100 miles of the stadium, I might not even get to see it. Blackout rule's in effect as there are still 3000 unsold tickets......stayed tuned. This is the Sunday night ESPN game. Should be fun.
